Official Blog Welcome!

Hello ICAN Community! My name is Sarah Shannon and I have the (humbling) honor of being the "official" blogger for ICAN. My goals are to: 1) provide information that will be useful to the ICAN community and, 2) increase traffic to the ICAN website by posting cesarean and VBAC-related content on the blog. I hope that you will find the blog useful. I will take any and all suggestions for blogworthy post ideas. You can email me at blog@ican-online.org">blog@ican-online.org.  read more »

Is it possible

Ok, here’s my story…..We are beginning to try for number 2 and I am excited yet anxious.  I have really had a hard time about deciding to get pregnant again.  Not b/c I don’t want another baby, but b/c I don’t want to go through another c-section recovery.  I had a lot of metal blocks with it and really felt like I missed out.  I had pretty bad post partum and I think it had a lot to do with it.  So much so I really thought I would rather adopt than have another one of my own.    read more »

Childbirth Connection Reports Overuse of Cesareans

VBAC in Oklahoma

I had my son via c-section a year ago yesterday.  I was induced at 39 weeks because I was labeled at "high risk" because I had 2 weeks of high blood pressure at 20 weeks.  When I went in for the induction I was barely 1 cm.  I was given Cervadil for 9 hours then started on Pitocin.  The Pitocin was increased throughout the night and the next day and was all the way up to 32 which is the highest they could go.  I only went to a 2cm.  I was never actually in labor.  Contractions would come off and on.  If I would move then they would stop.  All of this while still on Pitocin.  At 4the next day it is decided that I will have a c-section so the pitocin is stopped and my contractions stop as well.   read more »

All i want for xmas is a VBAC

Hi, I have 13 month old an am 5 months pregnant with our 2nd baby. At 8 1/2 mnths I had to have a Casaerean with my 1st because the Dr said she’d be 12 pounds plus (Im 5ft 4 & my husbands 6ft4).. Secretly I got the feeling he was just an advocate for C Sections… After much refusal & awkward moments with the Dr, I agreed & 3 days later was booked in. She was a healthy baby, but weighed 8 pounds 11… I could have done it!! I really really want to have a VBAC & am researching alot but want to know if anyone has tips for me for while Im pregnant & preparing. I keep ready about rupturing & its a little scary, but I really have that emotional urge to deliver naturally… Also am I at a higher risk of things going wrong because my 1st born will be only 18months old when I give birth??? Any answers or responses are most helpful!! :)
